Arena #152: Cameron Hall - Virginia Military Institute vs. Furman

Was nice to take a day off on New Year’s Eve to check out the sites around our nation’s capital before heading out for another doubleheader on New Year’s Day starting with a visit to the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA for a afternoon Southern Conference matchup between the Keydets and the visiting Furman Paladins.  Cameron Hall on the campus of VMI served as Arena #152 and was definitely one of the less memorable arenas that I’ve been to on this journey as it was fairly old and not very unique in terms of location, layout, or design plus the crowd was pretty sparse.  I do think there’s potential for the atmosphere here to be decent when the Cadets are in attendance and when the team is reasonably good as it was back in the Reggie Williams days, however, there was little to no atmosphere on this day with the majority of the atmosphere being brought by the Furman fans who’d made the drive up from South Carolina for the contest.  While the building wasn’t memorable, the game itself was, due to Jordan Lyons from Furman dropping 40 points in the game, including 10 three-pointers, to lead the Paladins to a 16-point road win in Lexington.

One of the 10 3-point makes for Jordan Lyons of Furman (on only 12 attempts!)
